“Efficient post-harvest and logistics is key to reducing food loss and food waste, and meeting the UN Sustainable Development Goal of Zero Hunger by 2030.”
Globally, the challenge of food waste is at an epidemic level, with approximately one-third of the food supply produced for human consumption worldwide being lost or wasted. This coupled with the fact that the world population is expected to reach 9.7 billion in 2050 will add to the stress of food production.
An effective and economically viable cold chain will integrate the supply chains of perishable commodities from the production centers to the consumption centers, thereby reducing physical waste and loss of value of perishable commodities. For setting up such an effective and viable cold chain, it is imperative to keep pace with the necessary infrastructure development, commodity specific protocols development, promoting technological innovations, dovetailing of various schemes, alignment between the various ministries for financial outlay and business model
restructuring.
Under CII FACE’s PHL vertical, we are committed to working towards enabling an integrated, energy and cost efficient, sustainable cold chain network for India.
